Some home dialysis programmes ask the patient and a care partner to run sessions themselves, and train them to do it. Trivita does not work that way — our dialysis nurse performs the session in your home — but here is what that training involves where it is offered.
What to know
- Typically four to eight weeks, in sessions two to five times a week.
- The patient and partner start by observing, then assist, then perform each step under supervision, then run a full session themselves.
- Covers machine setup, needling, monitoring, alarms, disconnection, disinfection and emergency response.
- Sign-off comes only once they can handle a routine session and the common problems.
- With Trivita's nurse-assisted service none of this falls to you: the nurse who arrives is the person who has been trained, assessed and signed off.
