Nocturnal dialysis runs long, slow sessions while you sleep, freeing your days entirely and giving the gentlest fluid removal of any schedule.
What to know
- Blood flow and ultrafiltration rates are lower, so cramps and blood pressure drops are far less common.
- Clearance is excellent, and many nocturnal patients need fewer phosphate binders and blood pressure medications.
- Requires secure needle taping, a moisture sensor for leak detection, and alarms audible enough to wake you.
- Sleep quality is usually good after the first few weeks, though most patients need an adjustment period.
