Types of home hemodialysis machines

Home machines fall into two broad families: conventional machines adapted for home use, and compact portable systems designed specifically for it.

What to know

  • Conventional home machines offer the widest prescription range and are usually paired with a reverse-osmosis water treatment unit.
  • Portable systems use pre-packaged dialysate or produce it on demand, take up far less space, and travel well.
  • Machine choice follows your prescription, your home, and whether you intend to travel — not the other way round.
  • Trivita supplies, installs, commissions, maintains and disinfects whichever system you are prescribed, and it stays in your home for as long as your treatment continues.
