Short daily home hemodialysis: pros and cons

Short daily dialysis trades session length for frequency — quicker treatments, but on most days of the week.

What to know

  • Pro: sessions of two to three hours are easier to fit around work and family.
  • Pro: gentler fluid removal and steadier blood pressure than three-times-weekly dialysis.
  • Con: more frequent needling, which means more access cannulations per month.
  • Con: higher consumable use, and the routine needs discipline on days you feel well.
