Setting up and priming the machine

Priming clears all air from the bloodlines and dialyser with sterile saline, and is the step that most directly protects you from air embolism.

What to know

  • Wash hands and set up on a clean surface before opening any sterile packaging.
  • Check every consumable for expiry date and intact packaging.
  • Load bloodlines and dialyser exactly as the machine prompts, following the flow direction markings.
  • Prime with the prescribed saline volume and inspect the whole circuit for residual air bubbles.
  • Confirm all connections are tight and all clamps are in the correct position before connecting to your access.
