Priming clears all air from the bloodlines and dialyser with sterile saline, and is the step that most directly protects you from air embolism.
What to know
- Wash hands and set up on a clean surface before opening any sterile packaging.
- Check every consumable for expiry date and intact packaging.
- Load bloodlines and dialyser exactly as the machine prompts, following the flow direction markings.
- Prime with the prescribed saline volume and inspect the whole circuit for residual air bubbles.
- Confirm all connections are tight and all clamps are in the correct position before connecting to your access.
