Alarms are the machine telling you a parameter has left its safe range. Each has a defined cause list and a defined response.
What to know
- Arterial pressure alarms usually indicate a needle position problem or access issue — check the needle before anything else.
- Venous pressure alarms may signal clotting, a kinked line or a needle problem.
- Air detector alarms stop the pump immediately. Never override them; find and clear the air.
- Conductivity and temperature alarms relate to dialysate and require the treatment to be paused.
- Blood leak alarms mean stop, disconnect per protocol and call technical support.
