Post-treatment care and monitoring

The half hour after a session is when late complications appear, so it is not the moment to rush off.

What to know

  • Sit for a few minutes before standing; stand slowly to avoid a postural drop.
  • Check needle sites for bleeding before covering with a dressing.
  • Watch for delayed bleeding for several hours, particularly if you are anticoagulated.
  • Rehydrate and eat as advised, within your prescribed fluid allowance.
  • Complete the session log while it is fresh.
