Cramps usually signal that fluid is being removed faster than your circulation can compensate for.
What to know
- Reduce the ultrafiltration rate and stretch or flex the affected muscle.
- Saline as prescribed can relieve an acute cramp.
- Frequent cramping points to an unrealistic dry weight or excessive interdialytic weight gain.
- Keep the room warm — cold worsens both cramping and low blood pressure.
- Log cramps by timing and severity; the pattern tells your nephrologist more than the fact they occurred.
