A severe blood pressure drop can progress to loss of consciousness in minutes, so the response is immediate and physical.
What to know
- Lie the patient flat and elevate the legs at once.
- Stop ultrafiltration and reduce blood pump speed.
- Give saline as prescribed.
- If consciousness is lost, disconnect per emergency protocol and call emergency services.
- Never leave a hypotensive patient unattended, and never sit them upright.
