Power loss during a session is a manageable event if you have decided in advance what you will do.
What to know
- Know your machine's manual blood return procedure and keep the crank handle attached.
- Keep torches with fresh batteries in the treatment room, not in a drawer elsewhere.
- Discuss a UPS or generator with your technologist if outages are common in your building.
- Report the outage to your care team afterwards so the session can be rescheduled.
Talk to your care team
This topic is part of Emergency Preparedness, one of ten modules in the Trivita Learning Hub. If anything here contradicts what your own nephrologist or dialysis nurse has told you, follow your care team — they know your prescription, your access and your history.
Trivita's dialysis nurses answer our care line 24 hours a day on 055 242 1070, including for people who are not yet our patients.
