Most hesitation about home dialysis comes from a handful of beliefs that are either outdated or simply untrue.
What to know
- "Dialysis at home means doing it yourself." Not with Trivita — a dialysis nurse comes to the home and performs the session.
- "I could never put in my own needles." You are not asked to. Cannulation, monitoring and disconnection are the visiting nurse's job.
- "My flat is too small." Modern portable machines need far less space than patients expect, and supplies can be delivered more frequently in smaller batches.
- "It will cost more." Coverage varies by insurer; many UAE policies cover home dialysis, and travel and time costs fall considerably.
Talk to your care team
This topic is part of Understanding Home Hemodialysis, one of ten modules in the Trivita Learning Hub. If anything here contradicts what your own nephrologist or dialysis nurse has told you, follow your care team — they know your prescription, your access and your history.
Trivita's dialysis nurses answer our care line 24 hours a day on 055 242 1070, including for people who are not yet our patients.
