Topical anaesthetic creams make needling far more comfortable, but they need correct timing and complete removal.
What to know
- Apply the prescribed amount to the planned needle sites and cover with an occlusive dressing.
- Allow the full onset time stated on the product — usually 30 to 60 minutes.
- Remove all cream completely and then perform skin antisepsis. Cream left on the skin interferes with disinfection.
- Do not apply to broken skin, and do not exceed the prescribed quantity or frequency.
